About me

How I came to the united states --

I was living in Nyala which is my hometown
in 2003 the darfur conflict began and my family because we were not arab, we were forced out of village.

my father was a healer in our village, and in 2004 we returned to Nyala
but our house had been destroyed.

because we have nowhere to go, we went to a refuge camp called Kalma which is near Nyala.

when I went to Kalma, it was very hard for many people there but because my father was a healer we had higher ranking in the camp and many people would come to us for help

yet it was very hard, there was little food and little water, many people were starving we were very lucky but we still did not have enough

in 2007 an agency called red cross came ot visit our camp
they brought toys and medicine and food and i met a man named doctor jordan porter.
the red cross told us about the war refuge program in the united states
my father had apparently applied for the US refuge visa for the family but
everyone was declined except me and my father, my mother and my sisters , and cousins were not accepted

and my father said he could not leave them there, but he told me to go and become successful

i did not want to go but I had no choice
---------------------------------------------

I am now a student at North seattle community college IEP program level 6
I have a great life knowing the sacrifices my family makes

i hope in the future when I become the businessman here in the united states that the war in darfur be over
and I can meet my family again

thank you,

Hadil
